Q&A: Mrs. M on the Business of Business

Countless Beverly students take courses in business and marketing. BHS Business teacher Kristen Marescalchi trains her students well to succeed in a competitive economy. Panther News caught up with Mrs. Marescalchi, or “Mrs. M” as she has been dubbed by students, to speak about the business of business.

Panther News: When did you know you were going to go into business/marketing?

In college, originally I was going to do Art or Graphic Design. So I started majoring in Art and learned how to incorporate it into marketing. I earned a business major and art minor.

Panther News: Where did you go to school?

Salem State.

Panther News: What was your first job in the business/marketing field?

Putnam Investment Company. I did conference planning and corporate relocations.

Panther News: What made you decide to become a teacher?

Having kids. Knowing the demands of working in Boston. Once I got certification, I was able to teach. 

Panther News: What is your best advice for people hoping to go into business/marketing in the future?

Be open minded as to the field you go into. There are so many opportunities for each personality.

Panther News: Are there any specific traits that most business people seem to have?

Great verbal communication. Interpersonal skills.
