New Botany Club Taking Root at BHS

BY ANNA BROPHY

The newly formed “Botany Club” has sprung up this school year at Beverly High School.

Dozens of BHS students can be found doing activities that range from growing flowers to making an array of plant-based projects every Thursday afternoon in Room 352.

“We have made tea blends, lip balms, lotions, plantings, cuttings, and chia pets,” said co-founder and BHS Senior Oliva Griffin. “We plan to make candles, terrariums, dish gardens, and more.”

Griffin teamed up with fellow senior Emily Bala to co-found the club.

“We decided to form this club our junior year after talking about it with Ms. Regan in our AP Biology class,” Bala said. “We then quickly took over and are actively working to transform it into our ideal vision.”

So, what does it take to keep the Botany club running?

“We plan each meeting, talk about supplies, post on Instagram, [and] lead the meetings,” Griffin said.

Each meeting is attended by about thirty students, according to the co-founders.

“We have lots of regulars,” Bala said. “We have been enjoying ourselves.”

The co-founders emphasize that there is plenty of room for more students to join. According to Griffin,“the club is laid back, open to everyone, and easy to join. Just show up!”
