BHS Girls Soccer Captain Izzy Sullivan on the Secret to Soccer Success

BY CLAIRE BREAN

Panther News recently had the pleasure of interviewing Beverly Varsity Girls Soccer senior captain Isabella “Izzy” Sullivan. Izzy has played on the varsity team for all four years of her high school career, so she has experienced playing with lots of great players and different team environments. In this interview, Izzy shares her perspective on this year’s team and what she thinks the future holds for Beverly Girls Soccer.

What would you say was the biggest challenge the Panthers Girl Soccer team faced throughout this season?

We’ve been kind of inconsistent on the field, it’s been hard for us to play with urgency from the first whistle until the last.

What do you think were some of the positives from the team’s performance in the regular season?

I think that we’ve done a great job of connecting with each other, and using each other’s strengths to succeed. We’ve built off of each other really well, making quick passes, and adjusting to everyone’s style of play.

How would you describe the team environment, and how has it affected your play?

I would say that our team dynamic is super strong and positive. Everyone gets along, there’s really nobody on the team that I wouldn’t consider a friend and I think that every player feels that way. It really helps with our energy on the field, we all work together because essentially we’re just playing with our friends.

Does the team spend any time together off the field? What do you guys do?

We definitely spend a lot of time together. Like I said, we’re all very close. On the nights before games we’ll spend hours at pasta parties, just having fun and laughing. We also see each other in school. We actually play a game of team tag that we all think is very fun.

How does the season look, comparatively, to last season? How has the team improved?

We definitely look a lot better, our team is still very young but everyone has more experience playing with each other now. We have a stronger record, and a better spot in power rankings which is very important. I think that we put a lot of work in last season that has helped us get to where we are this season.

Beverly Girls Soccer were knocked out of the playoffs on Nov. 5 by King Phillip High School. The Panther Girls  finished the season with a stellar 9-5-5 record.
