Beverly High Soccer Teams Promote Breast Cancer Awareness

Beverly High School’s Boys and Girls soccer programs designated one game this season to promote breast cancer awareness.

On September 19, these games were held at the Panthers’ home field.

Both soccer teams wore pink socks and jerseys to spread awareness of this disease that affects many people’s lives.

Fortunately, the result of both games helped the teams climb up their respective rankings.

The Beverly boys played against an evenly-matched Danvers team. Parents ringed the field to watch their sons play.

Reflecting on the significance of the game in his athletic career, Senior Ian Visnick cherished the moment..

“It means a lot to me to be able to be a leader of a team,” Visnick said. “Especially one that I love and wish to be on forever.”

For Visnsick, that the moment could help spread awareness made it all the more impactful.

“I know a lot of people who have [suffered] through the process,” Visnick said. “Having a game of our own being dedicated to spreading awareness about breast cancer means a lot to me.”

The Beverly boys defeated Danvers 3-0.

The Panther girls squared off against Peabody, traditionally a strong competitor.

Falling behind by two goals in the first half, the Panther girls rallied in the second for a final score of 2-2.

“This was a well fought game,” Captain Grace Fitzgerald said. “This game displayed our ability to keep playing until the end.”

“This was a well fought game by every single player, as it was a collective team effort,” head coach Samantha Charest said. “Our comeback saved us in the second half.”

She discussed the topic of the ability of her team to have team effort in the game. A large setback for the team is the first half, leading them to tight games and having to work their way back. Coach Samantha also states the end result of the game.

Charest emphasized that the team’s flexibility allowed them to make adjustments mid-game.

“We were able to fix up our mistakes as a team and blend our beneficial skills together and were able to hit two in the back of the net to tie us up, said Charest. “It wasn’t the result we hoped for but we still were able to achieve a rise in our power rankings for playoffs.”

If this game is any indication, the Panther girls aren’t finished showing what they can do.

“We kept up a good fight and didn’t give up,” said Fitzgerald.
